Fondue Italiano

When I was a kid, our Christmas Eve tradition was to have this Fondue Italiano before getting in our cozy pajamas and going to bed. It tastes just like pizza and is so delicious! My kiddos have always loved this fondue as well. It's known as "pizza fondue" at our house and is a filling favorite. You can dip a variety of things in it such as pepperonis, olives, mushrooms, or peppers, but our favorite dipper is big chunks of bread! So comforting and cheesy. If you fondue, this is definitely one you'll want to try,

Fondue Italiano

Serves 6

1/2 lb. ground beef

1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce

1/2 envelope spaghetti sauce seasoning mix

1 tablespoon cornstarch

8 oz. cheddar cheese, shredded

8 oz. mozzarella cheese, shredded

In a medium saucepan, brown ground beef until no longer pink; drain. Add the tomato sauce and stir. Add the spaghetti sauce seasoning mix and cornstarch. Stir to combine. Over medium heat, add the shredded cheeses and stir until completely melted. Transfer to a fondue pot and serve warm with bread.

Step-by-step tutorial:

Gather your ingredients. You will need ground beef, tomato sauce, a spaghetti seasoning mix packet (you can find them by gravy packets, just be sure it's gluten free), cornstarch, cheddar cheese, and mozzarella cheese.

In a medium saucepan, brown 1/2 lb. ground beef until no longer pink. Drain well. Add the can of tomato sauce and the spaghetti seasonings packet. If you can't find this, you could substitute a mix of spices to equal about 2 tablespoons. I would use spices like garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, sugar, and basil.

Add a tablespoon of cornstarch and stir to combine. Keeping the pan over medium heat, add the shredded cheeses. Continue to stir until all the cheese is completely melted and smooth.

Transfer to a fondue pot and keep it on warm.

Slice some bread into chunks. We like these baguettes from BFree. They hold together well and work great for fondue.

Sometimes I put this fondue on the table with bread chunks and a Caesar salad. It makes for a yummy and filling meal!

Using fondue forks, start dipping! It's a thick fondue, which is perfect because you'll get a lot in each bite.

The cheeses are very stringy which we love!

This fondue has the best pizza flavor! Once you start, you won't want to stop dipping! I hope you'll give it a try and love it just like we do!
